How to Submit a FOIA request:

To access information from the City of Carlyle, please submit a written request by means of facsimile, the U.S. mail, special carrier, e-mail, or personal delivery to a FOIA officer.  A written request is required to ensure proper compliance with the requirements of FOIA.  Please include your name, the date, preferred telephone number(s), mailing address, and, if you wish, your e-mail address.  Please be as specific as possible when describing the records you are seeking.  FOIA is designed to allow you to inspect or receive copies of records; it is not designed to require a public body to answer questions or create documents to answer questions.  Please tell us whether you would like copies of the requested records, or whether you wish to examine the records in person.  You have the right to either option.

Fees:

Charges for black and white and color copies, letter or legal sized copies (8½” x 11″ or 11″ x14″) are free for the first 50 pages, and 15 cents per page thereafter.  For abnormal size copies, the charge is the actual cost of reproducing the copy.  If the request is in the public interest, not simply your personal interest, and the requester states the specific purpose of the requests, there be a very nominal charge or waiver of fees.  Additional fees for accident records may apply, as allowable by law.

While the Freedom of Information Act provides for the disclosure of public information, it does recognize that some records should remain confidential in order to enable public bodies to perform certain governmental functions properly or to protect personal privacy of individuals.  A complete list of exempted records and documents can be found in Section 7 of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
