To celebrate National Kids to Parks Day and the Illinois High School State Bass Fishing Finals, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with Academy Sports + Outdoors, Henkel’s Hook and Arrow, and Fishing and the Outdoors, will host “Fishing Frenzy” on Saturday, 18 May 2019 from 1p.m. to 3p.m. at the Dam West Boat Ramp. Participants will visit stations that will teach them the basics skills of fishing. Stations will include: casting, fish identification, knot tying, fish anatomy, types of bait, and water safety. Each station will have a challenge for participants to complete. Prizes will be awarded to participants that complete every challenge. Stick around after the event to see the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals weigh-in at approximately 3:30.
Kids to Parks Day is a national day of outdoor play designed to connect kids and families with their local, state, and national parks. By discovering our public lands, kids across the country are learning about park stewardship, outdoor recreation, STEM, and history. Through teaching the next generation to appreciate our public lands, we are helping to foster future park enthusiasts and create the next generation of park stewards.
