Mayor’s Message

Mike's PictureMessage from the Mayor

On behalf of all residents, staff and members of the City Council, I extend to you a very warm welcome to the City of Carlyle.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our newly redesigned website.  We hope that Carlylelake.com will assist our visitors and residents in locating important city information so that questions can be answered swiftly and easily.

The City of Carlyle is a tight knit community located only one hour from downtown St. Louis and offers a diverse array of activities and amenities.  Visit the largest manmade lake in Illinois for boating, fishing, camping, or a brisk walk across the dam.  The park areas offer picnic facilities, fishing, and swimming, playgrounds for the little ones, baseball, basketball and tennis.  We have over eighty five acres of park land which is quite unusual for a town of our size.  Stroll through our quaint downtown and visit the shops and stay for a delicious meal at one of our fine restaurants.

A highlight for our town is during Christmas.  It is a very special time in Carlyle so mark your calendars and plan to spend the Friday after Thanksgiving with us enjoying the parade and fireworks.  Also be sure to take a drive thru our City Park while it’s shining bright with the thousands of Christmas lights.

If you have any questions or just want to chat please feel free to call me at 618-594-2468.

Sincerely,

Mike Burton
Mayor

The City of Carlyle is excited to announce that O’Reilly Auto Parts has broken ground on their new building in front of Wal-Mart.  Springfield Builders has shared with the City that construction should be completed within 90 days and the anticipated opening is scheduled for the first part of next year.  There will soon be a sign in front of the construction site with a phone number to call if you are interested in employment.  Please let everyone know that there is a new business in town!

The City of Carlyle is very excited to welcome our new Park Director, Mr. Derek Spanton.  Derek comes to us from Sapulpa, Oklahoma and has been working as a Federal Park Ranger with the Army Corps of Engineers.  Derek has a B.S. in Parks/Recreation and Tourism and will be joining us on August 17th.  If you see Derek or his wife Elizabeth around town please give them a warm welcome.  With our new Park Director’s assistance, we are looking forward to revitalizing our park programs and providing exceptional services to our park participants, citizens, and visitors.

In other news, the KC Hall box culvert project has finally reached completion.  A big thank you to everyone for their patience during the last year.

The Clinton County Fair is coming to town!  The Fair Parade will get the week started on Monday, July 13, 2015.  That does happen to fall on the same night as our regularly scheduled City Council Meeting so we have rescheduled the meeting to Tuesday, July 14, 2015.  I hope that all of our citizens and all of Clinton County enjoy Fair Week!
